EARTHWISE GARDEN PRODUCTS INC. IS A FAMILY OWNED AND OPERATED COMPANY.

Earthwise Garden Products Inc. started producing their own mulches in 1984, and produced the first colored (RED) mulch in 1997, introducing it to Home Depot in January 1998, where it then was a part of the Florida landscape in the south. Earthwise Garden Products Inc. then produced Gold, Black and Brown mulches that beautify a landscape and colorant that lasts a full year.

Earthwise Garden Products Inc. is a family owned and operated company. We have been producing landscape supplies and covering Florida since 1984. We started packaging by hand, producing 200-500 bags per week. Within our first 6 months of business the first bagging machine in the south was purchased that helped produce up to 6,000 bags per day. We were supplying feed stores to box stores, at that time Builders Square, and Scotty’s were mulch bags was done by weight which was 30 lbs. Soon our packaging went to 2 cu ft. which many follow as today’s standard practice.

we are making long lasting relationships

PRODUCTS

Welcome to Earthwise Garden Products, Inc.

Today, mulch can come from anywhere. Recent studies and reports are highlighting a problem with the mulch used in children’s playgrounds and landscaping projects. According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, arsenic occurs naturally in harmless trace quantities in all living things, including plants and soil. However, mulches made from recycled pressure treated wood can contain dangerously high levels of arsenic.

Those concerned about using these types of mulch products can find an alternative from Earthwise Garden Products. Earthwise Garden Products Inc. has been supplying the trade with safe, clean mulches for 20 years. We broadened the standards on alternative mulches in 1992 with the introduction of the Earthwise brand. Since then we’ve been at the forefront of new product development. Our products are manufactured with only the highest in production standards. Let us give you peace of mind on your next job or project.

MULCH/SOIL INSTALLATION

Our spreading services are done by hand, NOT BLOWN in, assuring you that it will be your desired thickness, and there will be no damage to small plants, and no excess waste. We will lay 1-6 inch coverage where needed and desired.

You will notice that with our shredded mulch 1-3 inch pieces there will be 12-18% more yield versus other products such as chips or smaller pieces of mulch. Our shredded mulch will create a matt that will help prevent floating.

MULCHING

Tips

Mulch left in bags or piles can begin to decompose or go sour, especially if it is wet and without much air. If this happens, open it up, spread it out and let it air dry for a few days or weeks before adding it to your garden. The color may change somewhat, but this generally will not harm anything. To avoid the problem, apply it promptly instead of letting it sit around in bags.

Instead of cutting the end of the sack and pouring mulch out like cereal, lay the bag flat, slash it the long way down the middle, then flip it over and lift the bag off. It’s the faster, easier way to handle large, heavy sacks.

If you place a layer of plastic under the mulch, be sure to apply the mulch thickly enough to block light. Most plastics degrade in the ultraviolet light of the sun. Plastic is also not permeable, so it may change the drainage in the areas where you apply it. Renew organic mulches every few years, as they break down and get spread around. You can dig old mulch into the soil and let it finish decomposing, or you can simply spread new mulch over the old.

Add a generous thickness of mulch. The depth of mulch is really important if you want to retain moisture and prevent weed growth. Aim for at least two to four inches (5-10cm) of depth.

The one place you don’t want mulch is right up against plant stems and tree trunks. Leave at least a little margin (four to six inches) for the plants to breathe, and to help prevent moisture depletion or waterlogging problems. Depending on your garden, you can use the mulch to create basins for water.
